Default Why Change my residency from FL to TX?

I am a fulltime RVer. I lived in Florida for 40 years. Three years ago we sold the house and hit the road in our motorhome. We still have FL plates, driver licenses, and get our mail via a mail forwarding service in FL. We recently purchased an RV lot in TX. We will only be there 3, maybe 4, months a year. I was born in TX and have started giving some thought to changing my residency. FL is good as far as No Income Tax, reasonable sales tax, cheap vehicle registration, homestead exemption...

Does anyone know any pros or cons on changing my residency from FL to TX?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure Texas has similar sales taxes and homestead exemptions, vehicle registration is more costly and you have to pass emissions. I'm a former Floridian as well. I hate that damn state.

You stated a few pros for living in Texas and they are mighty important ones.

I've never been to FL, but I don't think I'd like living in that state hanging out in the water and so prone to hurricanes. Of course, I wouldn't live in Texas either on the Gulf.

Hmmm, here are some stats:

Texas ranks 14th state in crime and Florida is #9.

Miami Gardens, FL ranks # 13 in most dangerous cities in the U.S. None in Texas rank in the top 15.

Clearwater, Florida ranks #1 as worst place to retire. Austin, Texas ranks #2. Corpus Christi, Texas ranks #12.

There's more dangerous lightning in Florida than in Texas.

For most affordable suburbs, Texas has more cities fitting that description than does Florida.

Florida has WAY TOO MANY people.

Some of the pro posters will visit your thread and give you the really important information, I'm sure.

wh, If you go to the retirement forum and do a forum search, you will get info you need. Few months ago I was following a thread with very specific info on the costs of retirement in the more popular states. If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I'll do a search when i have a bit more time.
What kind of RV you driving? We're pop-up campers now, but in 12-15 years would like to do what you are now doing.

I too am a full time RVer but at this time it is due to economic conditions rather then by choice. Full time RVing and workamping will be by choice when we retire who knows when. With the current ecomomic depresion most of us will probably work till we drop dead.

If you are a full timer then surely you are familiar with some of your very best chance of getting the info you seek. I hope your a member of Good Sam RV Clubs at Good Sam Club | Meet RVers | RV Owners Online Community who have a forum such as this. Join the Good Samborees who are all people just like yourself who already lived and experienced your questions. You can meet with them in person at any RV show, Boat show or Outdoor show where Good Sam will have a booth. These shows are held all over the USA several times a year.

I also suggest you belong to The Escapees Club Escapees RV Club – the club for all RVers who offer full support of any kind for full timers. RV dot net RV.Net Open Roads Forum is also another forum just like this one where the only people posting are RVers just like you. Finally you can find more answers as well as workamping opportunities here Workamper News

All other factors aside I have to choose Texas over Florida just for the nicer people and things to do. I just love Texas but also cant wait to visit Florida again.

Why do you have an RV lot in 2 southern states? Normally RVers have one north for the summer and one south for the winter.

Good luck to you.
