I've lived in both Austin and the Dallas area and prefer Austin. Dallas is just too big for me and the traffic is a nightmare. However, if you are looking for a more 'posh' and upscale life style then Dallas is the way to go. Austin is much more relaxed, not as fast paced and definitely less conservative.

I have no clue as to why people say Austin is not conservative. It's slow there in many ways both literally and figuratively, but it's not some liberal gay/hippie/artist/movie director/emo/goth rocker/ethnic minority mecca.

Also the traffic is horrible and tedious in Austin, and how could you not notice that.

...and it would have the tallest building West of the Mississippi again if Osama's West Coast plans were carried out successfully. 9/11 mostly affected New York, but would California become red in 2004 if that had happened and L.A. County decided to vote for Bush and turn the state red? The pundits would never cease speculating on CA's (or really L.A. County's decision to) transformation into a red state.

How would California's reaction to 9/11 be different than it is today? It cannot be shoeboxed as an event that happened 5,000 km away anymore since it also happened on California soil. How would the rest of the West react to an attack in their side of their country?

The difference between Dallas and Austin is simple. Dallas is pretentious. Austin thinks it isn't pretentious, but it is.

Austinites put down Dallas alot. What they fail to realize is that Austin is becoming Dallas in terms of attitude. Most people who live in Dallas and love living in Dallas will tell you that it can be pretentious. Austinites will deny their city is pretentious, but I agree that it is becoming so. Its just a different kind of pretentious.

Dallas doesn't have an attitude.
