I've been thinking about this for a while
I've lived in Texas for 5 years and EVERYWHERE I go people talk about how proud we are to be Texans.

it leaves me wondering...
Why doesn't Texas have it's own TV-radio network and movie industry?
I can only think of one TV show that I can call a truly 100% Texan show (PBS's Daytripper)

Shouldn't we have at least one "Texas channel"? a "Texas radio"? Texas movies?

Very timely topic. In my opinion it is time for Texas to develop it's entertainment industry to challenge Hollywood. Texas is on the rise and California is on the decline, Hollywood is week and almost out ideas, the time is right.

Has nothing to do with Hollwood or California being weak
Texas has about 25 million people, we should be able to easily support our own movie industry.... But I know, the wealthy people that push Hollywood movies down our throat are not gonna like it.

Texas does have a few movies that are filmed/produced in the state (mostly around Austin) but other states such as Georgia and Louisiana have a much larger film industry because of the tax credits they give to movie studios and filmmakers which Texas does not have.

Anyways Hollywood is not going to go anywhere since that is where the entire US entertainment industry is based, so while a movie or TV show might be filmed elsewhere, it is the people in Hollywood who ultimately finance the movie to begin with.

If Texas had a whole movie industry, pretty sure it would be for Spanish language movies.

I'm a little surprised that Texas doesn't offer more financial incentives to film movies/tv shows here. If nothing else, you would think that Texas would want to compete with the Louisiana film industry.

I think you're right about the major studios/production companies in Hollywood. They're not going to move anywhere else.

We have AT&T and Clear Channel -- huge media companies.

We have tons of TV channels and radio stations all over the state - many more than most other states. Big affiliate stations and small ones. There are channels like TXCN on cable for Texans, and then there is the Longhorn Network which is nationwide.

Many TV shows are filmed here. A lot of the Discovery/History/TLC/A&E silly reality shows are or have been filmed here (Texas Car Wars, Dallas Car Sharks, Texas Storage wars, Shipping Wars, etc -- way too many to list).

Lots of movies are filmed here. Here is a list from IMDB just of Austin-filmed movies and TV shows:
IMDb: Most Popular Titles With Location Matching "Austin, Texas, USA"

You can search for Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, etc and find tons more.

We have one of the biggest and most well known film festivals -- SXSW.

So, we have the industry pretty well covered IMO. There could be more, but there is certainly no lack it.
