Default What are the requirements of being a Texas Resident?

I am US resident(Green card holder) and I have been in Texas since August 2006 as I strated my studies at Texas A &M Universityat that time. So, I have been here since one and half year.Am I elegible to be a Texas Resident? Also, what do I need to do to become a Texas Resident? Which forms do I have to fill and where would I find them? Also,I donot have a U.S. driver's liscence and I cannot vote as I am US resident and not a citizen.

I think you may mean becoming a U.S. Citizen since you have been a Texas resident already for one-and-a-half years. However, to become a U.S. Citizen and a permanent resident of Texas, you will have to follow the guidelines as established by the U. S. immigration laws in the following article. However, to begin this process, you must have resided in the U. S. for five continuous years.

You're already a Texas resident for most purposes; you do not have to be a US citizen to be a Texas resident. You are not a Texas resident for tuition purposes, though.

As a green card holder you can get a Texas driver's license whenever you like. Contact the Texas DPS to get information on how to do that.

Thank you. But in certain financial aid forms they ask whihc state I am a resident of and when did i become. Also, dont i have to get registered with the texas state and then file some form to be claimed as a texas resident? but i dont know how to go about all this. is there any people who can help you out? or direct me to websites which have all these information. I know it will take me another 3 and half years to become a citizen.

Call the Financial Aid Office at the university....they can explain it much better than we can......however, since you are not a US citizen, the Texas resident issue is a non-issue - you are not eligible for in-state tuititon (unless the rules have changed a lot in the past few years.....that's why you need to get it straight from the Financial Aid office).
