keep in mind the rents in Midland/Odessa are inflated...I'm paying 1100/month for an apartment I could easily get in Houston for $600/month.

I'd prob go with Odessa. Out here for the first time and the work is booming and crazy.

I don't think there's any other choice except that area. Yea prices are inflated but I'm sure you could do well with yor work.

its prolly illegal to stay in a minivan in the city limits and you could die of heat stroke or get really cold depending on the season.

Yes, you will be harassed by the police if you attempt to live in a vehicle. It also gets extremely hot in west Texas during the summer months. Some nights, it won't even get below 80 degrees.

Texas Child Labor Law — Texas Workforce Commission
Here are the labor laws for the 16 year old. It's pretty restrictive during the school year.

Lol you're not going to be able to "camp out" anywhere in Midland/Odessa and living in a van will get you harassed by cops, possibly arrested, and above all else, it would be miserable.

Also, if you think uprooting three teenagers to go and live in a van with you in the desert is going to eradicate their bad behavior, I got some bad news for you..

As for your 16 year old, he'll be able to find work if he wants it, although none of it will be oil-related. Still, he can get a fast food or retail job and get all the hours he wants.

Good luck.

Texas' Child Labor Laws do restrict the number of hours a minor can work during the school year.
Please encourage him to at least get his high school diploma, and don't encourage him to drop out of school!
