Texas C-D'ers' Top Five Favorite Restaurants
Hey, y'all. Come on in, the blogging's fine.
I'm so excited about this new thread and it consists of two parts. Texas C-D'ers, I'd like to see if you can name your top five favorite restaurants. They can be places you go to in your local area or possibly out-of-town. You know you have some favorites and definitely more than one. Here's the catch: they must all be in Texas. Now, that should be easy.
I'm also adding an extra item to this thread: I will include a special poll to gauge your favorite type of food. That should do a lot to enhance your interest in this new thread. You get to vote on your favorite type of food that we might be including here in our discussions.
So, now, I'm turning this rascal over to you. I'll be back with my list, and believe me, it will a difficult top five because I have many favorites throughout Texas. It's time, folks. Your personal favorite top five restaurants in your state. Let's eat --- I mean, let 'er rip!

This is really tough!
Lulu's (all of them including the old Jailhouse Cafe which is closed I think)
Cherry Creek Catfish
Catfish Parlour
Saltlick
Ironworks
Chuys (texmex of the moment....)
Most of my favs are long gone into history, and the current list is constantly evolving.

Ok, here is my list:
1. Tampico's Spanish Inn, Midland, TX
2. Tia's Restaurant, Ozona, TX
3. Gaido's Seafood Restaurant, Galveston, TX
4. Mamacita's, San Marcos, TX
5. Chuy's Restaurant, Austin, TX
As you can see, all are Mexican restaurants other than Gaido's.
I wish I had a favorite BBQ, but have not run into any good ones lately....

Soul food is what's up. If I could choose any of the others, it would be home cooking and Italian.

In no specific order:
Myles J Restaurant, Bar, and Lounge (HOU)
Sweet Georgia Brown BBQ (DAL)
Breakfast Klub (HOU)
Piatto Ristorante (HOU)
My mama's (HOU)
And of course y'all know Houston is one of the king cities when it comes to tapas bars, so I'm dying to try Bice in Uptown.

mpope409, isn't typical Southern cuisine the same as soul food? When blacks immigrated north and west during the Great Migration, is that when the food was referred to as "soul food" to distinguish it from the northern and western white's food? I'm just thinking that whenever I hear soul food described, it just sounds like good ol' Southern cooking to me, black or white.
My five favorite restaurants...some of them are chains but got started locally in Texas and they do change so here is what they currently are:
On The Border (Tex-Mex originating in Texas)
Salt Grass Steakhouse (again, Texas chain)
Macaroni Grill (Italian but I don't know where it started)
Southern Recipes Grill (North Collins in Arlington)
Top Cat (catfish restaurant)

IDK!!!!! I like some many food, i choose Chinese/Asian but i would choose Mexican too, it depends. they have a lot of poser restaurants of both.
I like
1)La Fiesta
2)I <3 pho
3) On the border
4) Royal Chopsticks
5) The Grand
a lot of those are poser restaurants, but i can't find authentic Chinese or Mexican without diving to Plano, Garland, or southern Irving.
