For those of you who have front plates (lol), did you do it yourself or find some place that did it for a low price?

I think my brother got it done at a dealership on the east coast for a reasonable price, so I was gonna look into that, but we all know dealers usually charge a lot more than most auto shops.

I saw some plate covers and stuff and I'm just wondering how much most people spend on this stuff. I saw prices ranging from $5 to $20.

The dealership I work doesn't charge you to install the bracket. 2 bolts and you're done. What kind of car do you have?

It's two bolts and a plastic or metal surround if you really want it.

Why would you pay for that?

I think he is talking about the bracket (back plate) that plates on the front are sometimes mounted on.

Usually on sports car, euro cars, etc.

If the OP's car was bought in a state that doesn't require a front plate there is a good chance it doesn't have a bracket at all. Many modern vehicles with plastic bumpers come from the factory without a front bracket. The dealer will install it in certain states.

I would buy a bracket from the dealer, designed for the specific car. I'd probably mount it myself because it is typically just two or four screws. Some front brackets go directly into the plastic bumper shell. May have to drill pilot holes.

If you don't have the screw holes you probably shouldn't just drill the holes yourself because you don't know what's behind the fascia

Only one (used) vehicle I've ever bought didn't have a bracket or holes to accept a front plate. I just drilled small holes through the plastic bumper and attached the plate with larger self-tapping sheet metal screws. Held fine for the 3 years I owned that vehicle.

If I expect to have this car for another 5-10 years, would you recommend getting it done by someone else? (including friends and family)
