Would appreciate any advice you have. My family is relocating from Indianapolis to Texas for my business, which can be anywhere in Texas. We love the ocean. So we're trying to figure out where to go.

A few things to keep in mind.

1. We have several young children, so we care about the area/local schools/crime.
2. I run a business, so I care about access to educated workforce. In other words, living in a pure resort vacation area probably wouldn't work.
3. We enjoy boating and taking advantage of the ocean
4. Smaller towns are fine
5. Occasionally I travel, so distance to a commercial airport matters, although not as much as the previous points.
6. Our budget is fairly significant

Thank you for any guidance you can offer.

Try the Clear Lake, Bay area southeast of Houston. About 20/25 miles from downtown Houston on Galveston Bay with access to the Gulf of Mexico. Just a few minutes from the Johnson Space Center(NASA) Low crime rate, decent schools, close to Hobby International Airport. Bayfront homes in this area are expensive but really really nice...

Maybe a town like Seabrook Tx

Hope this helps

I agree with Jack. Seabrook is part of the Clear Lake area which certainly meets your educated workforce requirement since that is close to Johnson Space Center. Anywhere in Clear Lake or League City or Friendswood or even Pearland would work for you. Hobby airport is not far away. Boating is abundant. Many of the schools in these places are among the best in the Houston area.

I'll spend some time researching these areas. Thank you for your input.

Rockport
Aransas Pass
Portland
Corpus Christi

CC is a smaller metro area with 500,000 people. It is beginning to grow a lot quicker and has a lot of amenities of the big cities.

Crime is just like any other city. You won't experience violent crime unless you associate with those crowds and property crime happens at random.

For schools, Calallen ISD, Portland ISD, Tuloso ISD, Flour Bluff ISD, London ISD, and Rockport ISD are all great school districts. CCISD would be one of my last choices in the area.

A downfall for you may be that the airport is a small regional one, with only two destinations, Houston or Dallas, via American, United, or Southwest.

The Rockport/Fulton area is easily the prettiest and most interesting parts of the Texas coast, with lots of wind blown oak trees from the consistent sea breeze that blows across Aransas Bay. It is only 31 miles North of Corpus Christi, it has an educated population, good schools, numerous arts programs and festivals each year, the Aransas Wildlife Refuge to the North and Padre Island National Seashore to the South.

I agree with others -- if you want somewhere that's not just tourism, has good schools and access to a big airport, you need to look at the Bay Area/Clear Lake area outside of Houston. Nothing else will fit your requirements as well; everything else will be more of a tourist/vacation place, not as well-educated, etc.

Be aware that the Texas "ocean" is not like the ocean in other places you might have been.
