Hello Katie! I have lived most of my 30 plus years in Florida and 6 months ago moved to a tiny country city close to Abilene (which is not on the coast) - My humble opinion and based soley on the cities in which I have lived... Texas is cheaper. I love much about Florida- It's "apples and oranges" really. But as far as money- Texas strikes me as more affordable. Now, this does NOT mean it is less than in any way. Texas seems to be laid back. If you want glitz- you'll find it. If you want easy laid back country- it's here for the taking. The people have been FINE! Our experience in the Lone Star State has been only positive. Like Lyle Lovitt says, "You're not from Texas baby, but Texas wants you anyway!" (just learned it- great song!) Anyway, good luck... If you want to ask more specifics- I'll check back and do my best!

FORGET FLORIDA. folks are WAAAAAAAAY more friendlier in Texas. TRUST ME. plus...no state income tax, cheaper rents, and GOOD LOOKING MEN, had to add tht last one since you are single (believe me, you will see what i mean)

Well....I'm moving to Austin...live on Bistineau. My boyfriend went to school in Metamora...I'm from the Quad City and Chicagoland Area.

Check out Austin...grad students (posted from this forum) say that they can live there on $18,000 a year...

Best of luck,

Talking Corpus Christi has it all

I don't live there now but I wish I did. I lived in that area for several years and enjoyed all of it. It has everything you're looking for. It has a couple of great colleges, beaches, restaurants, beautiful weather, friendly people, good prices, great shopping, North Padre Island plus easy access to other small coast towns and islands. Go for it. You'll love it!!
