I know this is a ridiculous question because to me the REAL Texas is a lot of different things and means something different everywhere in the State. What is the REAL Texas to you? What do you consider to be the real, true essence of the Lone Star State?

Objectively there's not one. It is what you subjectively identify with. It's like asking "what is the real America?" Although facts can be objectively established, "truth" is in the eye if the beholder, certainly when it comes to things that are essentially aesthetic, personal assessments.

Texas is a state of mind. Wave at your neighbor, live and let live, and show an honest concern for your fellow man. There's many other things too, but it's a state of mind and a way of living.

I understand what you are asking and I agree with DanielWayne. Also, High_Plains_Retired had a great answer too. Being that it is home says a mouthful.

I really get sick of the "REAL _______" because it encourages people separate themselves.

I tend not to want to vote for someone who `says "____ is the REAL America/Americans".

Exclude Deep East Texas and the South which is now an extension of the lawless Mexico border, and you have the real Texas. The shape is roughly the same so you don't need to get rid of your T-shirts and bumper stickers.

Your location is Maui County, HI. You have lived in Texas for at least several years? The above is what many people from outside Texas still believe, Deep East Texas has always been a part of the true Texas? However not as depicted on the Westerns.

Every so often there is a post on one of these threads that needs an air fresher aerosol bomb. This (above) is an example.
