The Worst Texas Stereotype (West: town, stereotypes, trash)

Don't know if anyone mentioned it, but I have traveled a lot and one thing irritates me like no other.
Texas = Republican Conservatives (and all that goes with it)
I was so criticized by people from the East and by people from the Northwest.

What I cant stand is the stupid saying only Steers and *****s come from Texas! Dam Lee Ermey in Full Metalk Jacket because thats all I heard in boot camp! If I had the chance I would punch Lee Ermey in the face for having to hear that stupid remark everytime I met
someone new in the Military including my Drill Instructors!

I think the worst stereotype would have to be that most people have a Hollyweird view of us. For example, Were all oil rich millionaires that are as ruthless and arrogant as JR Ewing, have glamourous alcoholic wives like Sue Ellen, we all drive Mercedes Benz or Pick Up trucks with gun racks in the rear window, wear 10 Gallon hats & cowboy boots, live on sprawling ranches like Southfork, think Willie Nelson is GOD, and think that anyone or anything outside of our borders simply dont matter.

We all know there is some element of truth to the above but only a small fraction.
What do you think is the absolute WORST stereotype that us TEXANS have to overcome and live down???

I said a king, not the king...Bob Wills is still king...Elvis is a king...but as far as Texas is concerned...it's Bob Wills and George Strait.

I know what you said and when I read it, I thought of the song and posted some of the words. I didn't mean to put you on the defensive. You must be young; I know many, many Texans who think Elvis "hung the moon." I guess you had to grow up with him and "be there" to truly appreciate his music. And one doesn't have to be a southerner to appreciate country music. I got hooked on it living in California when I was about 15.

Yes, I'm young and I love the Music of Willie Nelson and Bob Wills...I love the Music of Elvis, but not to the degree of the other two.

I know when we landed in Texas, some almost 20 years ago, I was looking for the cowboys, and cowboy hats, and chaps and horses.... instead we landed in the cement jungle. haha I have seen the whole border of Texas but none of the middle. My husband has, driving truck, but I have never seen the 'county' part. Only the city life.
