Howdy fellow Texans, and new Texas residents.
In your honest opinion, what do you think is the worst stereotype us texans have to overcome. I think the worst stereotype would have to be that most people have a Hollyweird view of us. For example, Were all oil rich millionaires that are as ruthless and arrogant as JR Ewing, have glamourous alcoholic wives like Sue Ellen, we all drive Mercedes Benz or Pick Up trucks with gun racks in the rear window, wear 10 Gallon hats & cowboy boots, live on sprawling ranches like Southfork, think Willie Nelson is GOD, and think that anyone or anything outside of our borders simply dont matter. We all know there is some element of truth to the above but only a small fraction. What do you think is the absolute WORST stereotype that us TEXANS have to overcome and live down??? Don't forget that we all ride horses here in Texas.

My first time ever in Texas (3 years ago) I had no stereotype at all. I arrived, drove all over the place, fell in love with it, and while the wife took the kids to Astroland, I drove around with my dog. I fell so hard for the beauty of Lake Livingston area that I bought our retirement property without consulting the wife. She dont mind. It is near her family. And I cant wait to move there permantly. |

Of course not all Texans deal with horses, but I think there are enough people in this state who ride/own/love horses so much so to make that a pretty fair characteristic of Texas. Just the other day I saw a man riding a horse alongside the highway for no reason.
I believe it's more of a culture trait than a stereotype. In my opinion, the greatest stereotype against us is that we're closed-minded. This is the one that's hurt us more than anything. |

Can't believe no one has mentioned tumbleweeds yet. The perception by some folks is that Texas is full of tumbleweeds. And we know that's not true.

That they're better than the rest of the country and should be their own country
That they're all passionate about football and BBQ and not much else, unless it's directly tied to Texas somehow |
