Texas ignorance
I hate it when you see a T.V show and they put a person from Texas as a cowboy or redneck. I lived in Texas most my life and no one I know is like that.

Not in the big cities, but possibly in the small towns.

I'm not from Texas but I have lots of family there and go frequently. We up in the Ozarks are more redneck than anything I've ever seen in Texas although I'm sure they exist in Texas too.

I don't think there's anything wrong with cowboy types. I will say, I went to Dallas 1 year ago for business and we had an event at some famous roadhouse kind of place (it was HUGE) in Fort Worth and I saw LOTS of cowboys hats, boots, two-stepping, etc. I found it very novel. Never seen anything like that in my life.

LOL!!! Depends on how one feels about the term "redneck.."
As a lifelong West Texan, cowboy is fine....redneck still has a very negative connotation to me, but that's just me, I guess...

Yes, it is bad! You were talking about TV, and I definitely notice it. Remember the VP from last years (lame) 24 series? Typical of 24, he starts as a villian and ends up good. But still, the villian part was pure Texas stereotype, with a little dose of current political hatred of TX thrown in.
You will find it in other shows, too. Family Guy is hilarious, but you can tell they reserve a special hate just for Texas
I guess it really can't be helped. If you are big enough, you're going to be stereotyped and poked fun at, just because everyone can relate. It's not like you can make a joke about Arizonians and expect people to understand.

Here in Wichita Falls, the only time I see any redneck types on TV is on the Farm and Ranch Reports, before the early morning news shows. Sometimes, its funny to turn those shows on and listen to their extreme southern twang and jargon!
