Right on belle!
Personally, I hope Texas keeps getting bashed so peopel would stop moving here, especially from California (now, I'm not bashing Californians). Everyone buying property in my area is either from Cali, FL or Minnesota. Lets face it, it's not worth living somewhere where you can barely afford to pay your mortgage. Ahem, what's happening today? IT should not be a state vs. state argument, but we need to look at the facts and the facts show people moving to Texas in droves, maybe not for looks, BUT FOR QUALITY OF LIFE. |

yes.....i just pray that Texas doesnt get SO inundated, like so many of the other western states have. Montana and Colorado are such beautiful states, but it seems there has been a mass exodus of Californians to those states. nothing against Californians, i mean heck, if i lived in Cali, i would be moving too ha ha!

I'm not a TX native, but do love it here.
I also am very glad there are negative AND positive threads and opinions regarding moving to Texas. People from all over the country consider relocating to places like CA and TX, because they are full of opportunities and have huge economies. As such, it's not necessary to blindly advocate this state as a great potential relocation site. Just tell it like it is, the good and the bad. People will figure out what they want. State pride is just fine, great actually, but for the purposes of the forum, why not just limit it to why you like it here? Don't try to tell someone else why they should like it here. Just relay your positive (or negative) experience, and we'll all be the wiser. |

This is not a California sensation by any stretch. It happens here, too. Some people just don't want to take their head out of their sand. |

I have relatives that just moved my town in Texas from New York City, they used to live in Minneapolis and still own property in Hawaii. I don't know why they moved here except for the fact that much of my family is here. They have voiced concerns about the "Bible Belt" mentality of this area...I have always considered myself left-of-center and never felt out of place...Texas is (In my opinion) a pretty open state in terms of space and intellectual soul-searching...Dallas has some of the best recording studios in the country(I play music) even of higher caliber than Austin (which has a few, but not like Dallas even though the music scene is considered more vibrant). I love this state and am proud that I was born and raised here...although we have some stoooooooooooopid politicians, you can't blame every element of the Texas Lifestyle for George W. Bush, Rick Perry, Hutchison, and others...
That being said, I have a desire to check out Los Angeles and see if I could find work related to my undergraduate degree and see if I could make it as a musician or find work in Hollywood. All in all, Texas is an affordable(compared to the national average) state to live in. I don't think many of my fellow natives will give you flack for your being a migrant from another part of the country (that being said, I could be wrong, it is a big state). -Michael |

Because the housing costs are even higher than in South California!

We have folks from everywhere at Dyess AFB in Abilene. Not everyone loves Abilene. Not everyone loves Texas. Most, however, agree it is a family-friendly and inexpensive place to live. Those are my most important reasons for living here. We don't have snow, mountains, winter sports, and lots of other things that some people need for their quality of life. But those are not things that I need or want. If there were just one perfect place, everyone would live there----
