You should definitly consider Nacogdoches: http://www.city-data.com/city/Nacogdoches-Texas.html

There are some nice photos along with the data on that page.

For a warmer climate I recommend Rockport/Fulton, TX. Its the prettiest part of the Texas coast on the edge of Aransas Bay. http://www.city-data.com/city/Rockport-Texas.html

Outside of Texas I think Hot Springs, Arkansas is a nice place, low cost of living, very pretty with lots of lakes and pine trees. http://www.city-data.com/city/Hot-Springs-Arkansas.html

All of those links are to City-Data data pages which includes lots of factual information about each location such as, demographic data, photos, weather, crime rates, median income, median house prices, median rent costs, etc. etc. You can find data pages like those for any town/city in the US here http://www.city-data.com/

I like nature, flowers, birds, etc. I want a peaceful quiet place to enjoy same even if its in a small out-of-the-way town. I am SO BURNED OUT on life in Kansas City, I want to be able to feel safe going for a walk at a reasonable hour. Does such a place exist or am I just dreaming. THE WARMER THE BETTER.
You've been given some good suggestions, OP. I used to live out in far west Texas and it was quite an experience getting used to it. But after spending my first year 'exploring' the area, learning about the surrounding small towns close by because there sure weren't any big towns in the area, I came to like where I lived - especially the lack of humidity.

Wherever you end up, I hope it works out as well for you as my move did for me. Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestions that sound in line with what I'm looking for and for the links / resources to check out the facts to help me make a good informed decision. Everyone has gone above and beyond and I appreciate all of you, each and every one.

And I love the palm trees, THOSE I could definitely get used to.

Thanks for the good luck wishes, sounds like you've already found your good luck charm - I hope it stays green for you. Wherever you're living I you sound like an excellent neighbor to have close by.

Maybe Belton or Temple? They are smaller, but still have amenities, lower cost of living, close to a country feel, some good hospitals are nearby (my friend is a nurse at one of them), and its in the heart of Texas- so you have options to go explore much of Texas to your heart's desire whenever wanted.

Lots of good ideas, been thinking about the bigger picture and I MIGHT have SORT OF leaning toward SE OKLAHOMA.

I have time to consider as i probably won't be moving until Fall 2015. Anyway --- I guess that's why these forums are so great and people have been very positive and helpful even though I have seen forums, not here, but elsewhere that have been very snipey - this one is great thank you everybody. I still haven't decided so any further suggestions are very welcome.

Rockport and Nacogdoches both look very attractive - I must do more investigating here - focus on something and these two seem to be close to what my cup o' tea might be! thanks to those who recommended
