Weather is very unpredictable up here in the Panhandle. Case44 you were right about a few days of springlike weather, we had high 60s and low 70s here, now back to 40s and 50s! But is usually predictably bright and sunny! I don't mind cold and dry, but do want the sunshine. Haven't really had much snow or ice here, maybe is ahead of us!!

I remember that Easter! Gee, was it only last year?

I like our normal winters when it's in the 40's to 60's during the day. I don't like the freezes we get but luckily they don't last long and we usually only get from 1, 2 or 3 episodes of those. I just wish we could use our fireplace more often!

If I was to build a new house, I am pretty sure I would leave out the fireplace entirely. We have a gas one right now which heats the room nicely and is quaint looking, but do you know how many times we have used it in the past few years? Not many. And with a toddler, it is quite out of the question right now....

The only logs I would use would be to smoke me some brisket!

But we've got sunshine here in Dallas today with jacket weather. We'll see how long this lasts.

I lived in Maine for 2 winters ... loved the summers but 6 months of winter generally below freezing for days to weeks, I'll take our winter fluctuations anyday. I've lived in Texas since 1955 ... weather is the same as I remember since then .

If you want consistentcy wait for summer.

Any of you Texans remember the winter of '83? Didn't get above freezing in East Texas for 5 days. Steinhagen Lake in between Woodville and Jasper froze over. I could walk on the ice. Killed millions of saltwater estuary fish (redfish and speckled trout) all thje way down to south Laguna Madre (Sabine Lake was hammered). 200 yo palms trees 200 miles into Mexico were killed by the sustained cold weather. I saw lows consistently night after night in Tyler county (75 miles inland from the upper coast) from 10-12 degrees F. The ground actually froze.

Now this may not raise an eyebrow for you Panhandlers, but for us Pineywwods /near coasters it was way cold!!!! Made for some awesome duck hunting though!!!!

Yes I remember it well, I was in Jasper at the time. It was very surprising to have that cold of weather for that long, but I loved it.

In around 88 or 89, I was on Galveston Island during Mardi Gras and it started to snow. Now THAT was odd! . I-45 off the island froze over and was closed, but we managed to escape south toward Freeport.

I remember the freeze of 83. We went to South Padre and Boca Chica beach to get some fish. It was so cold that a lot of fish died or were stunned by the cold.

It nearly wiped out the orange groves.
