IMO Dallas is crawling with Liberals so I don't know how I would handle Austin. I'm from Southern California so I know liberals.

BTW I didn't come here to escape liberals... the California liberals got my employer to leave the state.

My job has me calling Dallas and from what I've heard from people in Dallas county, they're pretty liberal. A lot voted for Romney but they were still moderate to liberal republicans.

I wouldn't say austin is progressive though. To me the town seems libertarian.

I remember when North Korea was going to bomb LA, DC and Austin. Many of us were ok with that as long as they would throw in Chicago, NYC and San Francisco too. Then maybe we could get the train back on the rails.

No way. Not with Acevedo as the Police Chief. They actually tried to do some "gun buy backs" in Austin [Massive Texas Facepalm]

Dude, the city is not progressive in the real sense of the word.

These places are America, so I can't support bombing them unless it was flaming turds, then I would be amused if SF, Green Bay, and DC got it. My daughter lives in LA so not LA, plus I need to go there for Clippers games and also to see Arizona play the two Pac 12 schools in town.

Nope. Software company, formerly located in the Inland Empire. I haven't even owned a Toyota.

To the OP.

West Coast: "Austin's the only livable place in TX" (paraphrase of OP I know)

Southerners: "Austin's overrated"

IMO, some of it has to do with the socio-cultural values and attitudes that tend to predominate among the two groups. Others have to do with being (on the West Coast) possibly fed up with mega-city life, while a lot of Southerners especially small town ones tend to be accustomed with less traffic and hustle and bustle.
