For any of you thinking to move to the area of Rockport, Fulton,
Aransas Pass, Portland or Corpus Christi......don't. I have lived here for 20 years only because my wife would not move. Thank goodness she nows wants to move. This area is ugly...nothing but flat and oaks trees. Ugly beaches, HIGH crime (Rockport's rape rate is 7 times higher then the national average and the population is only 10,000), corrupt law enforcement, parents that deny that problems of drugs in the schools; which is no surprise since they are using them also. I am being serious on that one. The drug problem in South Texas is EXTREME. Even teachers are using cocaine. People are nice but quite ignorant. When I first moved here they asked be where I was born and raised. I told them California and they actually told me that I must be a hillbilly then! I could not believe it. Then they told me I would love it here because it's the most beautiful place in the world. Yet most of them had never travelled out of the South Texas area! Let's see what else. Oh yes. The high humidity, mosquitoes and 3 inch roaches that fly. They call them waterbugs around here. I could go on and on with 20 years of experience here but I will stop it here. Try the hill country instead. Much safer. |

Well, John....I lived in Rockport from 2001-2003. I know that quite a bit of what you're saying is too true. The mosquitos and flying roaches (I call them tree roaches) are prevalent there. I read the Rockport Pilot every week, and what you're saying about the crime rate seems to be right on target.
![]() About the teachers....well, I haven't been there in over four years, but while we were there, my son's teachers were great, with the exception of one coach. He loved many of them, as did we. Now to your Hill Country comment. I now live in New Braunfels! ![]() |

I guess I love it, as this is the third time we've lived here.
We've lived here this time for three years and come hell or high water, we're stayin'! The Guadalupe River is so amazing! There's a little biker bar right next to the rapids and it's one of our favorite places to relax, even though we're not bikers. Our son's even performed there and sits in with a couple of the regular bands often. For the most part, people are so open and friendly that you immediately feel "home". One other thing....if you come here, remember that the "s" is at the end, not in the middle of Braunfels. LOL! |

Actually we were thinking of moving to Fredericksburg but my wife did not like it. I liked it though.
So now I am looking at two areas of Tennessee. I will post some pics of the areas if I can figure out how. |

Fredricksburg is a busy, busy tourist town and there's never an "off" season. I've lived in Nashville and Murphreesboro, TN and the winters there are COLD! As I type, it's only 58 degrees here and tomorrow's suppsed to be in the 70's. Not bad for January, huh?
The Comal ISD schools here are great. NBISD, not so great, but acceptable. |
