Possibly moving to Abilene soon and wanted to know if anyone knew about southeast area near Kirby Lake. Is it a good area to live?

If by 'southeast' you're referring to the area west of Lake Kirby then yes, it would be a good area. I'm referring to the area between 'Buffalo Gap Road' (TX 89) and US 84. The main entrance to that area is 'Fairway Oaks Blvd.'

If you're referring to the area on 'Sugar Berry Ave' then it probably is suitable as well. Use the 'avatar' in google maps for a street view.

Be ware... Lake Kirby is not a pretty sight. It's basically a red mud water retention for ranch and farming. In that area, water flows from south to north, to Lake Fort Phantom Hill then to the 'Clear Fork of the Brazos River'. You'll note the reference to 'Buffalo Gap Road' above. Just south of Abilene is the town of 'Buffalo Gap', a pass in an east/west range of hills known as the 'Callahan Divide'. That would be in Callahan County. South of the 'divide' is the Colorado River water shed. North of the 'divide' is the Brazos River water shed. Ranchers would drive cattle from south Texas through the 'Buffalo Gap' when headed to market. The Brazos originates in that west Texas area, flows east almost to Fort Worth, then south to the gulf.

There are several great established neighborhoods in that area. There's also a new development in that area (it doesn't show up on all maps yet) that has some nice homes (Southlake, Whiterock, etc). Most of the area is in Wylie ISD which is one of the better school districts in the state, and there is a planned retail development at the intersection of Oldham Ln and Loop 322 as well, so the area is definitely growing.

As Temp43k said, there are also some great neighborhoods west of the lake and highway, so you should have lots of good choices.

Be sure and reply if you have any other questions.
