The OP started this thread in April and said he planned on moving in late May. Since it is almost October, I assume he's already moved or changed his mind about it.

BTW Katy, I enjoyed the New Braunfels pics.

I'm glad you liked them. It's even more beautiful in real life, and there are better pictures on the Internet. I tried posting others, but they wouldn't post for some reason. I love New Braunfels because it's such a quaint town. Very German influenced since a lot of the Germans settled there. Fredericksburg, Texas is the same way. You can still hear the oldtimers speaking in German, but it's Texas German, a dying language from what I hear. Luckily a professor at the University of Texas is documenting it. He's from Germany and happened to hear some people speaking it at a restaurant in Fredericksburg, but could tell it was not the same as the German he spoke. He talked to them and found out they grew up speaking almost exclusively German in their town before WWII, but during and after the war it was mandated that they speak English in school because of prejudice against Germans. Now very few young people speak it any more.

It's different because the German language evolved after the Texans' German ancestors came here. For example, Germany may have a word for Helicopters, but the Texas Germans say it more like the English version since they were here when helicopters were invented.

I agree, it's very pretty there and everyone should visit the Schlitterbahn water park at least once.
