This is driving me crazy. I keep hearing parts of the song in my head that is the title, but I can't remember who did it!!

:-(

Creedence? Crosby, Stills, etc?

Buffalo Springfield. You weren't too far off. Stephen Stills was in Buffalo Springfield prior to CSN.

there's something happinin here
what it is aint exactly clear
theres a man with a gun over there
tellin me i got to beware

i think it's time we stop, children
what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

there's battle lines being drawn
nobody's right if everybody's wrong
young people speakin there minds
getting so much resistance far behind

it's time we stop,
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

what a field day for the heat
a thousand people in the street
singin songs that they carry inside
mostly say hurray for our side

it's time we stop,
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

there are lawyer strikes deep
into your life it will creep
it starts when your always afraid
step out of line the man come and take you away

you better stop
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's going down x4

"Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered members of the Texas Military to monitor federal troops in an upcoming two-month training exercise planned for the Lone Star State.
Operation Jade Helm will bring the U.S. military's most elite soldiers, including the Green Berets and Navy SEALS, to Texas for simulated special operations in a hostile territory. But plans for the exercise have roused fears in many Texans of a federal occupation."

Long as they round up some o' them 'illegals' I ain't got no problems. And as long as the state troopers learn something from them federalis then that much better.

I think some of those lyrics are erroneous . I'm pretty sure these are the correct lyrics

I thought that italicized line was always: "'n [they're] carryin' signs" ...
Or did I confuse it, from listening to the 'monaural' version on AM radio? ... It's been a whole lotta years!
...

You are right - "singing songs and carrying signs" - he's talking about a '60s hippy protest.

It's "paranoia strikes deep" there too.
