Question Roadrunner Sightings Outside of West Texas

We all know about the existence of roadrunners. You know, those little bird creatures that don't fly, but rather run on their two legs in the desert terrain. If you've been in West Texas, chances are you've definitely seen them running across the various roadways. Well, a friend of mine talked with me today and he has actually seen a couple of roadrunners around D/FW. I have, too. Once. And it wasn't far from my apartment in Lewisville. And all along, I thought roadrunners could only be found in West Texas and the desert settings, but apparently not. I don't recall on any of my trips to the Hill Country or Southeast Texas ever seeing a roadrunner, although it might be possible in the Hill Country. But maybe you have. And if you have, where?

So, here's what I'd like to find out from you out there: Have you spotted a roadrunner in the places where you live? How about we gather around our little computer campfire for a few minutes? Now those of you who live in West Texas, we already know you've seen thousands upon thousands, but those of us elsewhere probably may have seen some in places you wouldn't expect.

What say you?

I live in Central Texas and I have roadrunners that come into my yard. I just love them, and some of them are very large.

Whoops! Forgot about Laredo. I guess they would be down there, too.

Default Roadrunners

I see them maybe 10 times a year out here in SE Texas (I'm roughly 50-60 miles west of the La. border and 75 miles north of the Gulf). We generally see them in the same areas ... not in deep woods. Plenty of grub for them. BTW ... mockingbirds are cute little birds ... the RR I see seem to be about 18" beak to tail. They are way cool. I've lived or visited family in this county and adjacent Polk County since 1966 ... been seeing them since then.

Lotta other critters in these woods too that most folks don't see!
