I don't really do whole fish. I generally prefer filets without bones.

Yes, I messed up when I said just a pound. I meant to say a couple of pounds and not much more than five or so.

And that's also the one I cheated on, too!
But, hey, it's all within reason.
I need to get back to O'Harlies. Need some hushpuppies and crispy fish!

It's a place called Catfish Heaven. Don't waste your money on the catfish. Very skinny fillets, and the all you can eat buffet is waaaaay overpriced. And be warned - it's ONLY all-you-can-eat catfsh - you don't get more fries or other sides when those run out, so to me that's a bad sign that this place values a cheap sack of french fries more than their catfish.
However, there is one stand-out at this place - fried shrimp. My wife got the sampler that had some of these on it and they were excellent.

The Huck's in Van Alstyne is now called "Finn's" - something to do with $$$ they were paying for franchising, but as you noted, just as good as the original.
These "Chicken Express" places are starting to pop up everywhere too. They have decent catfish, though not the best I've ever had.

I love Catfish King. My family used to stop there whenever we would travel between Houston and Lufkin.

You could use a few of those around the Houston area. I don't know why Mr Beard couldn't get any locations in and around the Bayou City, but he has a few locations in D/FW, as well as a number of places in East Texas. Go figure. On my trips to Houston, I like Sudie's for their fish, but I hate their hushpuppies, so it wouldn't hurt if Houston could get a few other catfish-specialty restaurants like Catfish King to go with their many wide-range seafood places. By the way, the Livingston location has been rebuilt as far as I know (they had a fire a few years ago), so if you do one of those Lufkin trips again, now can you stop by once again.
Besides, with Catfish King, I love their crown logo. It's a great marketing tool, but for some strange reason, they don't use that at some of their locations. Odd.

Try the all-you-can-eat catfish at Massey's Restaurant in Fort Worth on Wednesdays and Fridays. It's terrific, as is their chicken-fried steak and everything else I've tried there. It's got a nice down-home atmosphere, too.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but Top Cat in Irving is great. I think there's one in Arlington, too. Fishbone is a great little hole-in-the-wall on Collins in Arlington across from the new stadium. Been there for years.

They also have a Top Cat in North Dallas on Forest Lane. Not sure if it's still there, as I haven't been there in about five or six years. I need to get back. It's not the best I've had, but it is tasty.
