Well....the Rio Grande Valley.......or ANY part of Texas that is a border town/area...is NOT diverse. It's majority Hispanic. That's very logical, and there is nothing wrong with it.
But.....to mention diversity in the same breath with South Texas...that's very misleading.

No one likes to be discriminated against due to their race or culture!!! THAT street runs both ways. When you are in the minority, and the majority is not accepting of you JUST BECAUSE you're a different race/ethnicity, that truly sucketh. I know where Belle is coming from because I had a horrible time as an "Anglo" in a couple of the places I lived where I was in the minority, and it had NOTHING to do with my "not accepting" other races. THAT was the card the MAJORITY played against me. Racism is always wrong, not just when it's whites doing it!!!

OP, if you visit San Antonio (which is great & delivers the latin culture that we both enjoy). Check out other towns near it. New Braunfels & Boerne are nice towns 20-30 miles from downtown SA & have the smaller town (more conservative) feel than the big city. (a little to conservative for me) But the city (SA) is nearby & both are lovely towns, are county seats & are neat & diverse on their own as well.
Also if visiting, check out Austin which despite the bohemian downtown areas, have suburban conservative areas as well. (Check the Austin boards).
Good luck in your search.
