Default Commuting to Dallas From E Texas

I have a client who is asking about commuting times from the general east Texas area....more specifically he is interested in communting from Tyler and surrounding area to Coppell/DFW area. He wants to hear from people who actually do that kind of commute. Anyone out there who actually drives it? I've been told that a larger percentage of people do it...more than you think.

Wow, that's a toughy to estimate as it would all depend on where you go once you get into Dallas. But figure 98 miles from Tyler to I635 & US80 intersection, basically the outer eastern city limits... which should be at normal speeds of 50-60... then, who knows? Depending on where in Dallas, it could be another 15 minutes to one hour plus tacked on to that.

Hopefully, there'll be some that actually DO make the commute and are on the forums that can help you out (but glad it's not me)!

There are quite a few people who drive in to Dallas from the Gun Barrel City and Mabank areas. (I used to work with 3 of them, and they drove over an hour each way.) But I can't imagine going all the way across Dallas to Coppell/DFW unless you're able to fly a helicopter to do so...

With no traffic, Tyler to Dallas is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. To get to Coppell/DFW Airport means that one would have to drive all the way across the city once one got to the eastern edge. I can't imagine how long a commute that would be but it sounds awful. If the commute was during regular rush hours, my guess would be 2.5 to 3 hours each way.

I live right on I-20 and it takes me 1 hr 5 minutes to get to Mesquite. But to get to Coppell would take another hour at least.....I just thought there might be some people on this forum that did it.

I commute from Van Zandt County (just 18 miles west of Tyler) to Dallas (Harry Hines at Mockingbird). It is a 90 mile trip one-way and takes me an hour and a half. From Tyler it will take 2 hours. If you drive at peak times (arriving in Dallas between 7 and 8:30) you should allow an extra 20 to 30 minutes for heavy traffic and incidents. I have found the best route from Tyler is to stay on I-20 all the way in to 175 or 45. I-30 is more congested and much slower. If your client is interested in carpooling, please send me an email. Would love to discuss those possibilities. Currently (at $3.69 per gallon this morning), my monthly gas bill is over $500 just for the commute. Carpooling would cut that in half for both parties. L. C.
