Hello Fellow Social Service colleagues,

I have a question. So I am fresh out of College and just moved here from California. I have taken the LMSW certification exam here in Texas, which luckily I passed on the first attempt. I have two small babies at home, but have been contemplating starting to work for either Home health agencies or Hospices looking for LMSW for PRN work.

My Question is: If I am hired by any of these Home Health agencies, would I have to pay an outside Licensed LCSW supervisor to supervise me. It wouldn't be clinical work. It would be more like fee for service on a per patient visit. I have been told that this is the norm. Does anyone have any experience in this? It wouldn't be much of a salary, but I have been told the Monthly rate to pay a supervisor is in the range of $300 to $400.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

IIRC, LMSWs don't require supervision like a LPC does. You only need the LCSW supervision when you start working on your own LCSW.

That being said, I would be really, really careful working for a home health company as your first job in the field. A lot of the smaller ones are shady/unethical, and they might take advantage of your inexperience. You also would be most likely working by yourself, which will limit the amount of professional interaction you will get. Personally, I would look at working in a hospital setting instead. You will still be able to find PRN work, and you will be able to work with other professionals in a better environment.

Thank You ChristieP

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. I wasn't sure if I was being taken advantage of by this annonymous LCSW supervisor. Thank you for the clarification. I will be contacting the State board for approval in regards to this matter.

Blessings
