Hi All,

Recently, I have approved for %100 telework so I can work from any where I want
I am thinking to move back to Texas as I have some family and friends there.

Here is my story: I am a single man in late 30th (Never married and no Kids), with stable job and income, well educated and healthy.

What city in Texas do you suggest to move to? So I can start to meet people, buy a house (reasonable price) and with outdoor activities
I know about Austin but the prices are high and traffic is crazy I am thinking Fort Worth, TX

What should I do?

Thanks

Fort Worth would be my choice. Lots of interesting things happening there and prices aren't so crazy as Austin. The area just west and south of downtown has lots of interesting new development. I like the Fairmont and Magnolia Ave areas.

In your 30's? Dallas or Houston. Way better scene, and a lot more opportunities to socialize. Also, buying a house before you're married can cause a lot of drama.

Fort Worth nightlife is so boring unless you're like 45 +. There's somewhat of a scene, but if you didn't grow up in Fort Worth, go to some private school in West Fort Worth, attend TCU, or you're not a TCU groupie or wannabe redneck then you won't really fit in IMO.

I've given Downtown Fort Worth so many tries but it's always a disappointment. Seems to cater to families and the 50+ crowd more than anything. I guess that's why it's so popular on city-data, posters tend to be older than me (29). It's ok if you're with friends but it's a major snooze fest if you're alone. Everyone stays in their own little groups and it's just not as busy as the Uptown areas of Dallas or Midtown in Houston.

West 7th is kind of cool, but the rent is just as expensive as Uptown Dallas, and it's nowhere near as developed or fun. Just mainly high end chains and mediocre bars. I'd get bored there quick.

The near south side is pretty awesome, but not as good as Greenvile Ave, Deep Ellum, or Oak Lawn in Dallas.

Fort Worth also has some good dive bars, but again I prefer the Dallas ones.

I also prefer the parks here. The Katy Trail and Whiterock Lake are great.

I love FW but I totally agree with this post!

Did you stay actually on West 7th or ever venture south into the rest of the neighborhood? Only a minority of the bars just south of 7th are chains.

Downtown caters to all ages which is why you'll see older people and even families there, but I agree that it tends to attract an older crowd. If OP is in his late 30's, that is much different than 29 and Ft. Worth may be more his speed. Plenty of great places downtown, though. I'd take the Scat Jazz Lounge over any music venue bar Dallas has to offer.

And where do you get that you won't fit in if you didn't grow up in Fort Worth? That's funny. Most people I run around with in Fort Worth didn't grow up there. It's full of transplants just like everywhere else in DFW.

I agree on the parks. White Rock is my favorite park in urban Texas. Fort Worth's best parks are Gateway and Samson Park, both of which can be sketchy and surrounded by run down neighborhoods. Samson Park is beautiful, but lock your doors.

I'd say if you want a larger, busier single scene then Dallas is better. Fort Worth doesn't have as many options for restaurants and bars, but it's cozier and more cultured.

Sounds like you're looking to meet women. Where do you live now? What's so bad about it that makes you want to move? What do you do for a living? How much can you afford for rent? What types of activities do you like? What's your style? What type of women do you like? Does Church play a role?

If you yell us more about yourself, we can help a lot more. There are good 30s singles scenes all over Texas, but the vibe in Austin vs Dallas vs Houston vs Fort Worth, etc are all very different. All can be good depending on who you are, what you like, and what you're looking for.

If you want a thriving single scene then Austin is probably your best bet, followed by Dallas and Houston.

If you want to settle down then San Antonio or Houston will offer that the quickest and cheapest. There are more women per capita in San Antonio and Houston than Dallas or Austin.

I've had no problem meeting single professional women in San Antonio. But, you and I are different ethnicities and neither one of us are Hispanic.
