We decided not to do it though - believe it or not, the COL in Arkansas would be higher than Texas, due to the state income tax. Plus, my parents lived up there and they had two or three TERRIBLE winters in a row, where they were stuck in their house on top of a mountain unable to drive out of there for about 5 days at a time.

It's a beautiful area, but we decided to stay in Texas - and they moved here instead - LOL. There's better infrastructure here, which becomes more important as people age.

We decided to just pocket that difference in COL and go there on vacation occasionally instead. But wow, it's a beautiful area. Very underrated and often overlooked.

Yes, we know we'll have to take a cut in many areas if we move there (we want Hot Springs/Garland County also). Wages are lower, good doctors fewer, income tax and high sales tax.......but we've always wanted to live in a mountain setting and are absolutely smitten by the Ouachita's. Good news is home prices are reasonable and property taxes next to nothing. We would likely home school our kids, so no worries there. It's a big decision. Texas has a lot to offer as well, and if we wind up staying that'll be fine with us.
