SW Arlington. South Arlington is a not so hot area (around Sam Houston High, etc.). If you were to move anywhere in Austin, it should be SW Arlington. Commute to the Six Flags area may be high since you are going with the traffic (rush hour).

I lived in arlington for 3 years. we loved it. My daughter was born at arlington memorial. My step daughter went to mansfield schools. Mansfield is small but really nice with good schools. We lived in arlington but the kids went to mansfield we lived right on the boarder line of both. I would love to move back some day. good luck with you.

I really don't understand what the problem is with Grand Prairie? When I visited I a new community south of the I-20 I liked what I saw. There were nice communities, shopping, and it was close to Joe Pool Lake. Definately a nice place to live.

Not much is wrong with GP south of 20. It's actually very beautiful around the lake area. Go 5-10 miles north of that, and you'll find what people don't like about GP.

North of I-20, GP isn't all that great. No where near south of I-20.

I plan to retire in Arlington within the next 5 years. What is a good area for seniors to live. I really would love to buy a trailor in a trailor park. Grand children will be visiting so near the amusement parks is good. A location thats maybe 5 to 10 miles from a Christian church.

PastorScott - Off of Arkansas Ln, between Fielder and Bowen Rd is a nice, quiet rv/trailer park. I looked it up and I think it's called Ranger mobile home adult park. It is very small and there are horses and mules stabled there in a surrounding field as well. There are quiet retired folks there. It is a short 5 minute walk to a neighborhood park with a small fishing pond and a walking trail. There are many churches nearby - a historical Baptist church (Woods Chapel) and a large church, Fielder Rd Baptist are both within walking distance. There are tons of other denominations a mile or 2 away. Is there one in particular you are looking for?

Arlington also has a great Parks and Rec department so you can take them to one of the city run pools or water parks. The neighborhood park also has a splash feature that is fun (and free!) in the summer. Down the road a mile or so, Gnismer farm grows and sells produce that is superior to anything you can buy in the store. Kids love to go and pick their own strawberries - which are the most delicious variety I have ever had. Lake Arlington is a few minutes down the road if you like to boat, as well as Pappy Elkins which is even closer, about 3 miles away. Walmart grocery, Walgreens, and Kroger are in walking distance as well. Major shopping near the Parks Mall (which has ice skating rink and movies) is 5 minutes away as well and loads of great restaurants. Another RV village, Treetops, is closer to the shopping. I'd say it's about 10 minutes from Six flags or Hurricane Harbor depending on traffic.

This area is pretty safe - being on the border with Dalworthington Gardens and Pantego doubles the police presence in the area. Just don't drive around with expired tags, LOL, they are quick to ticket drivers! You will be close to everything and your grandkids will have a great time visiting!

Any help is appreciated!
I live in Bedford and work in Arlington - north of 30. I have looked at homes in all of the areas that you mention. Here is my ranking and why:

1) Hurst/Euless/Bedford - essentiallly the same town, well regarded schools - IMO - best access to DFW from Bedford or Euless
2) Grapevine - more traffic, further from Arlington, schools a toss-up w/ HEB (according to latest rankings), good access to DFW
3) Mansfield - lots of young couples, essentially all of my coworkers, overrated, no character, lots of new homes, high taxes, avoid 360
4) North Richland Hills (nothing of interest in Richland Hills) - new homes, a bad commute to Arlington, OK schools
5) Grand Prairie - only s of 20, only Mansfield ISD, no question
6) Cedar Hill - big homes, lake views, marginal schools, Dallas County, lots of foreclosures, only if you haven't any kids
7) Flower Mound - too much of a haul - seriously too far wouldn't even consider it.

North Arlington, if you've got the money, is really nice. Near River Legacy Park. Sourth Arlington and South Grand Prairie are the same, but there is NOTHING in GP like North Arlington.
