I have to vote for Abilene first and Lubbock second. When I was looking to move to central or west Texas, I was blown away by how friendly people in Abilene were/are.
We came to Abilene to look at property and spend the night. We had just pulled into town, checked into the hotel, and stopped by a coffee house for refreshments. I was out of cash from traveling so I gave the worker my debit card to pay for our food and drinks. Their card reader wasn't working for some reason so I offered to either write a check or go to a nearby bank to get some cash. The guy wouldn't hear of it! He knew we had been traveling and told me to accept the food and drinks on the house, as a welcome to Abilene. I was stunned!
LOL, the very next morning, we went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. We placed our order and about 10 minutes later, the waitress came back and said she had gotten busy at the cash register and forgot to put in our order. I said it was no problem at all but she insisted that we wouldn't pay for our meals because of the wait. Again, I was gobsmacked!
Folks who visit me from other places always comment on how friendly and helpful people in Abilene are. I agree. I find Lubbock to be very friendly, too. My son goes to Texas Tech so I visit Lubbock fairly often. Folks are pleasant, cheerful, and helpful.

I think the state in general is quite friendly, but my vote is for San Antonio, if we're talking cities and not towns.
Dallas would be my last vote, just because I experienced some racism there, but I'll consider that chalking up to just an isolated incident.

I've been to lots of places in Texas and all of them were friendly. Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and quite a few smaller "town-cities", and little towns. town cities are what I just came up with for places that are too big to be small town anymore but not too big city either.

That's because FL has a lot of north eastern transplants. Texas is very friendly.
