No one mentioned Kincaid's in Fort Worth? Supposed to be really good but I've never tried it yet. I don't eat many burgers, never have, but when I do they tend to be fast food. Especially Whataburger, here's another vote for a Texas icon! I love their burgers!

I haven't had a whataburger since high school and I won't say how long ago that was! Guess I should try one. Steak N Shake has good burgers but I wouldn't say they are at an icon level.

I mentioned Kincaid's in FTW--and there is one in Southlake now as well--
good but juicy/greasy and their onion rings are the real deal... |

Home-grown Burger House Burger House, Texas - Burgers Fries & Handmade Shakes Since 1951 in Lakewood and University Park are pretty good for semi-fast food - they have "Jack's Fries" which are also a staple of the State Fair.
And yep I do like Whataburger. |

By the way, gang, since the first hamburger was created in Athens (in East Texas), do any of you know of any good places you might recommend out there?
Not to mention, a burger with a good side order of black-eyed peas..... ![]() ![]() |

I did try Chester's a few years ago in SA. Nothing special, unfortunately, but I don't wish to discourage you from trying it. Several SA locations. I still remember former SA weatherman Jud Ashmore pitching those Chester's commercials on the radio years ago. That's how I found out about the place.

Found this site: Roadside Peek : Burger Joints Texas
while I was looking for one for Keller's Hamburgers and Drive-Inn on E. NW Hwy (near Abrams) in Dallas. |

My favorite burger is the HEB burgers with cheddar and bacon in them and I cook them on my George Forman. I'm really picky when it comes to burgers and nobody offers the toppings I use.. bleu cheese, green olives, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, mustard, avocado, small dab of mayo, and pickles. My burgers are a little on the big side and usually fall apart, but they are sooo tasty.
I wish we had a White Castle here, that place rules. We do have Krystals here, but it's not the same as White Castle and nowhere near as good as the ones in Florida. As far as Chesters, that was a serious disappointment. Chris Madrids was OK, but nowhere near the hype. As far as a chain I can get here, I like Fuddruckers because I can do my own toppings and they will cook it medium rare. It's hard to find a place that will do that and the last one I had was Über bloody on the plate ![]() |

When my sister was alive, she lived near Keller's in Dallas, and it was great. Is it still there? I haven't thought about it in a long time. It was a truly wonderful burger, and they were always very busy.
