Smile Will we be welcomed as french tourists in Texas ?

This question because I know that Texas is a conservative and republican state and the position of my country - France- during the war aigainst Irak was not really in agreement with the USA.

I really love the United Stades and his inhabitants. I have friends in Florida: they were first my host family for one month when I was a student, the came to visit me and my husband when I have been living in Paris and we used to visit them in Jupiter, FL several times.
They told me that fifty percent of American people were for Mr Bush policy and fifty against. As a French, I could be accepted by one American for two.
Anyway, I use to advise my kids to say that they are Canadian if somebody asked them where they are from...just in case.

Our new president has some good relationships with yours and I feel better with that.

Could you pls tell me what do you think about that ?

Sorry for my "English" which is not really academic but I guess, you can understand anyway.

I don't think you'll have a problem as long as you're polite. When I lived in New Hampshire, we hated the French Canadians coming into the store where I worked for one reason: they were extremely rude. They would stand together in little groups speaking French, glance over at Americans from time to time and then laugh. Were they laughing at us? I don't know but they sure gave the impression that they were.

Also, they would demand all of your time and attention answering questions and showing them things, then they would gather together, speak French and laugh, and then walk away without buying anything. Meanwhile, your other customers were waiting patiently or gave up. This is what made us grit our teeth when they came into the store.

Most things in America have gone the way of "self serve" for better or for worse, and everything here is fast. We don't linger over dinner, we don't expect or get a lot of service in stores. It's get in and get out and European visitors often don't understand this. LOL, conversely, I have to "slow down" when I'm in England because people who work in museums and shops actually do expect to serve you and I'm always in a hurry!
Just keep in mind the difference in expectations here and you should be fine.

I've got to ask -- why is your name "Arizonagirl" when you're French? Not a criticism, just wondering!

In 2006, Texans removed some of the members of Congress who were on the side that spoke out against France and all things French. That notion seemed to disappear from the public consciousness after that election. I doubt very much that you will run into people who still carry that grudge, although there may be a few left.

I hope that you will visit San Antonio while you are in Texas. It has 3 of the top 5 tourist destinations in the state and the weather here is wonderful at this time of year. Tourists from all over the world are welcome in San Antonio!

Hi:

While I am not French, I am a German expat living in California. Even though I disagree with many TX laws and many of the conservative factions in TX, I have always had wonderful visits there. People are very friendly. You should not have any problems. The obvious rules apply - do not talk about politics, religion, or sex and you'll be fine - and who talks to strangers about these things anyway.

I do every day here with people of this forum. =)

Well I don't think you'll have any problems.. but at the same time, some may have some feelings about that whole IRAQ thing your country shafted us on. But you as a person... can not be held to blame for your countries bad choices... I mean it's not like you are not grateful for the many times we US Soldiers have saved/bailed your country out of many hardships. Like WWI WWII, VIETNAM, to mention a few. So you may run into some animosity.. but I don't think it will be anything major. I wish you a safe and fun filled trip.. and Welcome to TEXAS!
