I haven't been to all of the cities listed, but San Antonio gets my vote for worst drivers. That's all I'll say about this because the Texas lynch mob will be after me for daring to "mess with Texas".

I really don't need to get on any freeways around Dallas, as everything I want to do is within 5-10 minutes.

I have noticed that the further north you go, the worse they are - running red lights, cutting you off, honking, driving to fast in the rain, etc.

In my neighborhood it is not unusual for people to wave thanks or greetings.

As a truck driver, Houston,Dallas & Austin are pretty equal........
I used to do oversize heavy haul in houston[dozers/excavators etc...]
the worst place in houston is 59 south down town to sugarland and ANY WHERE ON WEST LOOP.............
simple rules for driving in houston:
turn signals.......merely an option
if exiting the freeway, wait till the last second , then cross 3 lanes at 80mph then slam on your brakes on the ramp[after cutting in front of 120,000 # truck.....]
the worst the weather, the faster you drive..........
never,.....UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES...let anyone change lanes in front of you.....
green:go/ yellow: go faster/red: go faster with horn blaring[esp. dump trucks and container haulers]
if you are traveling on any of the local freeways and there is a break down or accident on the service road.....regardless what lane you are traveling in......SLOW DOWN TO A CRAWL.......[maybe a law, I dunno]
if for some reason you miss your exit....DO NOT GO TO NEXT EXIT AND U -TURN.......instead pull off on shoulder and BACK UP
If pulling atrailer full of junk or have your p/u bed full of "stuff" and anything blows or falls out......ignore it and keep going.....some one will....eventually move it out of the way............
...........many others, but that is basics............

was in a traffic jam on sunday southbound I-45 around exit 27-28
3 lanes turned into 2
construction sign says left lane closed till apr. 28th. Sunday was apr. 29th. It was very misleading.

Anyway, saw people with their trucks and SUV's driving through grass from highway lanes to feeder lanes(access lanes for you Dallas people).
Houstonians just don't follow rules when driving.
oh, and since when was changing lanes without signals OK?

Haven't been to Houston or San Antonio. I've lived in a few cities and I've never seen so many people on cell phones while driving as I have here in Texas...of all ages too.

Wasn't it Dallas that recently put a camera up somewhere to catch people running red lights? Handed out 20,000 tickets for that in one month! And that was only one area...

Austin seemed more aggressive to me. DFW you have a chance to merge without risking your life sometimes (but I haven't been out in rush hours often) Compared to the places I've driven its pretty crazy everywhere here. I've seen some really scary driving and generally just try to stay out of the way.

The Stemmons is the worst freeway in Texas. The design is outdated and the overpasses are low. Instead of pouing new concrete, they poured asphalt and potholes start to form. The center rail is just a guard rail not a concrete barrier. Many cars drive through there everyday. From downtown, the curves are so sharp and it is congested on the other side. As you get to Denton, it turns into an old U.S. highway.

Maybe I'm just used to the new freeways in Houston.
