Julie1327,
A fantastic small town is Hallsville, Texas. Located in beautiful East Texas where I'm originally from. Very small town, just got it's second redlight. Close to Longview where I went to High School and there are two hospitals there, Good Shepherd and Longview Regional. East Texas Medical Center in Tyler was mentioned earlier and is an EXCELLENT facility without going to the Big D. (Dallas). Some doctors come there on a regular basis from Dallas. Tyler has beautiful azealas this time of year, but it's a little larger than 5,000 people.
If you are not staying close to your family, I would consider being near your husband's family. It is so nice to have family nearby when you are thinking about starting a family. There's something to be said for family and plus it will make your husband happy I bet! Tennessee is georgous and then there's Ashville North Carolina. OMG the colors are fantastic in the fall. East Texas is a lot like Tennessee. Rolling hills instead of mountains though and lots and lots of trees. Consider Carthage Texas, very small town with Panola Hospital. My whole family is from that area and I love it there. Some beautiful victorian homes and a rich history of the beginning settlements in Texas. If you guys are worried about tornadoes......stay away from the Northern portion of Texas along the Red River into Oklahoma. Watch the weather patterns this time of year and you will find out a lot. The towns I mentioned are great and I've never been in tornadoes in these area, just a heavy thunderstorm or two! Good Luck to you both and let us know how you come out.

Boerne is a really cool town just north of san antonio...san antonio has a thriving medical community and many people that live in boerne commute into sa...it isn't that far, but it feels far away from the city...marble falls is another hill country town that I like, but I don't know what the job prospects would be like.

Hi Julie,

You might want to look into Lindale, which is approx. 80 miles east of Dallas, in the "piney woods" of east Texas. The population is around 4,000 or so. They have a wonderful school district, plenty of trees, and you can get to Dallas in a little over an hour.

Schulenburg is a dear small town with every business you would want. Clothing, Groceries, schools, nursing home, bakery, ooo just a lot of necessary places to shop. And what isn't there is nearby. I am not sure of churches, though there was a Catholic , a Baptist and a UCC athere when last I visited. I couldn't find the UCC when looking for it on the internet.

I lived there years and years ago, and have visited my Oma very often. She never mentioned crime, and I was never aware of a problem. If you contact their police department or the Highway Patrol you can get a more clear picture.

The only problem like Hikergril08 said DFW and North is right in the center of Texas's Tornado Alley. Some one talked of Alpine, That is a great area, It has the coolest temps. in the summer in TX. and a dry climate. But most smaller towns in Tx. are begging for good RNs. What does you DH do? That may help you decide. If he's not an RN than jobs may be fewer.

Default Moving to Dallas Area

We are moving to the Dallas area. Can someone give us some ideas for small town living around Dallas. My son goes to a school that has a class size of about 130. He is a freshman and is a great student/athlete. We are looking for somewhere he can get a strong education and have the ability to play football and baseball. I will be be working in Dallas and don't care to drive much more than 30 min.

I also grew up in Star and would not recommend it. There is no housing and the school just closed. I would suggest a nice place like Liberty Hill or Dripping Springs-both located close-but not TOO close to Austin. I currently live in Cedar Park and love it-close to Austin, but not too big!
