We will be moving soon to Fort Hood area. What are some some of the best and most safe cities to live near Fort Hood, TX? Thank you.

I always opted for Temple and Belton during my tours at Hood. 25 minute commute on average. Much lower crime rate, and better schools than Killeen. There are quite a few more military families moving out that way. Was at Hood the first time from 93-95, and there were very few military families in Temple or Belton. When I retired in 2009, there were quite a good number of Hood based families that opted to live there. Lived in Temple the first trip, and in Belton outside of town by the lake the second, and in town in Belton on the last. Friendly people, easy access to I-35 to head to Austin/Waco/DFW etc.

If you have school age kids, definitely Belton. Has the highest rated schools in the area and is a nice smaller town community. Temple seems to be declining to some extent, those schools are shrinking while the Belton schools are booming so people are voting with their feet.

If kids are not in the picture then you have more choices but I'd probably still pick Belton.
