Where Would You Live...
Ok, here's the deal. We live in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) and are looking to relocate to Texas. WHERE is/are the best areas to live? My DH cannot settle on one particular area to look into! He is driving me crazy with going from one side of the state to the other. We were told by a realtor that Abilene is a dying town, we were also told by the same realtor that Hawk Cove isn't a place for people with kids. We're now looking into the Houston surrounding areas. Humidity isn't a prob as we are used to South Florida weather. Galviston and other Gulf Coast areas are out, we've had ENOUGH hurricanes, thank you! PLEASE HELP! I had family in Coleman, Leaday, and in the areas surrounding there. Desert doesn't scare me...

Reason to live in San Antonio TX:
1. 3 times championship basketball team the Spurs, Rose Bowl in college football, The US Army Bowl
2. Get more house for your $$$.San Antonio is a strong market and very different from the conditions in other parts of the country!
3. Big city with a family friendly environment like ghost tours and parks for kids
4. New business and more jobs Ex: New Toyota Plant, Washington Mutual Bank, Several Military Bases such as Lackland,Fort Sam Houston and more.
5. Outlet mall is not that far in San Marcos. Stores like: Armani, Puma, Old Navy. Upscale stores are large shopping centers like the Quarry Market, North Star Mall, and the La Cantera.
6. Great colleges: Univ of Texas at Austin, San Antonio Community College (3rd in nation for nursing) and many others. Private Catholic Universities like: Incarnate Word, St.Marys,Trinity, and Our Lady of the Lake Univ.
7. History of the Alamo, the Riverwalk,Aztec and Majestic Theater ( Broadway plays from New York), and the Missions. Museums like The McNay and Witte Museum. The Towers of the Americas, San Antonio Zoo, SixFlags, etc. Public and Private Golf CLubs
8. Fiesta: Annual Celebration Get ready for 10 days of parades(Cavaliers Parade/Battle of Flowers), carnivals, balls, art fairs, concerts and amazing food; its a city holiday. Theres also Rodeo: This year Joe Nichol,The Jonas Brothers,Staind a little bit of everything for everyone. Luminaria: Art festival for all kinds of people who are into art

Longview would be a good choice. You can hit Shreveport for gambling, or Dallas for other stuff.
I would not live in San Antonio, but New Braunsfel or San Marcos would be great choices.
I'm Moving to Galveston, or near there very soon. Hurricanes can be a problem, Florida gets more than its fair share. But at least you get a warning and can get out of town before they hit.

Howdy!
First of all, I think the person you talked to pulled your leg about Abilene. It is not that bad like they suggest. As far as places to live, you can go anywhere in Texas and get a good deal. I'll give you a top three and they're all in different places.
1. Katy (Houston) - One of the hottest places in the Houston area for new homes. Near big-city amenities, great Arts district, and the beaches are an hour away.
2. Frisco (D/FW) - It's our worst-kept secret, but it's a booming area and very well-planned.
3. Round Rock (Austin) - Central Texas is gaining lots of jobs and lots of growth. The area has lot of great traditions.
So, there are three that I think would work for you, but there are so many more in this big state. Do your homework first, and talk around before you make your choice. And welcome to Texas!!

just about anywhere in Central Texas/Hill Country-best of it all, and centrally located so that you are just a few hours from DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin from just about anywhere down here. definitely not isolated.

since you liked what TXGIRL had to say about San Antonio, if i were you, i would check out CASTROVILLE as a town to live in...very very nice but still only 15-20 min drive from the Riverwalk in San Antonio and most of downtown.

Midland, Texas.
We don't get the tornados, no humidity, low crime, cheap as can be, we got SW airlines fly into the most hilarious (in terms of easy to get to, park in the shade 20 feet from the checkin counter) airport in the world, we have a wide variety of private schools as well as good public ones, we got Midland College, we got Odessa next door (nice to have it next door, not right on us *laff laff*), total sunshine all the time, we got jobs due to the boom, you want churches we got 'em take your pick more churches than air molecules, safe, fun...BUT NO WATER TO PLAY IN HERE. btw Abilene is NOT dying, someone is crazy.

Here I go again...but you need to look at the East Texas area. It's simular to FL with a lot of hardwoods and pines...but rolling hills also. The humidity can be high in the summer. Housing is very reasonable. Take a look!
Welcome to Tyler, Texas
