There behind about 10 yrs or more boring nothing to do not unless you are use to small towns or grew up in one big city to a small town won't work.
If you dont care to much for living around blacks good place you won't find many in lumberton unless there working or passing through Vidor none at all first time I ever been called a ****** there and I was 32 yrs old then bottom line it's slow and behind times I stayed drunk all the time depressed so we moved to Houston doing much better now.

Another 2 post wonder. Not surprised. Seems this is an individual that needs external stimulators to find happiness ... typical of today's society!

Granted Beaumont lacks the glitze of Hollywood by far. But anyplace is what one makes of it!

Poor Southeast Texas. It just can't catch a break when it comes to this forum.

Agreed. Stereotyping never ends. Sure, Beaumont (the city) has alot of problems, as does Port Arthur and Orange. Get past that, though, and the area is really pretty good. The economy is fine (and growing), the housing is affordable, and the smaller towns (Nederland, Lumberton, Bridge City, Hamshire-Fannett, etc.) have great schools and communities. All in all, a good place to live.

Yep, this part of Texas is so different from the whole west ... opps ... rest of Texas. And people will be people and slam things ... especially if they feel superior for whatever reason. Its sad.

There are lots of good folks in the Golden Triangle, very salt of the earth types. Schools in the 'burbs' are a bit better than the city itself. Not bad folks, just there are a lot of good paying jobs in the plants that dont require a college education. It seems though that the plants are looking for degreed folks to do operations jobs nowadays. Being able to understand electronics and computers is the key now.

I just moved to Lumberton last summer. I love going to beumont. People are nice and there is plenty to do. There isnt really much to do in Lumberton but it is growing and only 15 min to Beaumont. The schools are good and it is more family oriented then other areas I have been.

The only things I dislike about Lumberton is that everyone has known each other for many years and although they are nice they dont seem to like letting new people in their "clicks". If you move to a bigger neighborhood it might be easier for you to find friends. I think I made a mistake moving to a smaller neighborhood with mainly older (retired or almost retired) folks. The kids have adjusted really well though and love the schools. I also made a mistake in not getting really involved with the school right away and it is hard to learn their ways of doing things. It is like a different world compared to where I came from.

somebody mentioned their being a lot of prejudice here. I have noticed a little but not a ton. there are a couple of black kids in the intermediate school and my daughter said they are treated just like everyone else and have plenty of friends.

The only thing that concerns me with lumberton is the drive time commute if you wanted to get to houston. I am amazed winnie is not a ton larger...

I think one of the things holding Winnie back is it is only 13 miles off the Gulf and probably only 8-10 feet above sea level. Great people there though ... strong Cajun influence.
