there isnt much in Temple, what I have seen of it wasnt very nice... My brother lived there and it wasnt a nice area, my vet is there (off of I-35) and its kinda run down in that area too, I agree with the just move to Austin Commenter or atleast Round Rock, Buda or Kyle all are relatively close to Austin. Leander is VERY nice, if you can afford to live there.

I live in Temple. We moved here in 1997. What would you like to know?
We have three small children and live on the far south side. We've been very happy here. Every town has its run down areas, problems, and such. Temple, Austin, RR, Georgetown, all have their ups and downs.
I've never priced property in RI, but it could be that land is cheaper here because there is simply more of it. Just a thought.
Good luck in your search.

I am very familiar with Temple and would also have to "defend Temple" against the first couple of posts....Temple seems to have a very progressive feel for a town its size...and it's safer than Waco, lol

I'd have to agree. Temple is NOT a bad place at all. You have Scott & White Hospital. There are people in Dallas that go there, my grandmother was one and this was YEARS ago. She had a specialty doctor there she had to see as there was not one in the Dallas area. LOL!! Imagine that. It is a growing place and will probably continue to grow as Austin does. People that may end up working in Austin that want more of a true small town feel will find it in Temple if they don't mind the commute.

Ten years ago, the drive from Temple to Austin would have been a nice relaxing country drive, where you'd arrive in Austin fully refreshed! Now, you'd probably look like a haggard, shipwrecked sailor upon arrival.
What with the competition with the rigs on I-35, gas price at least double what it was and the extra 100K people that have moved into the North Austin suburbs. Living anywhere north of SH-29, I consider suicidal if you work in Austin.

Temple is quite a nice town to live in, we visit there quite often cause my dad goes there to the veterans hospital. I mean the people are nice it's nothing like Austin but it's a nice town to live in.

Just something else to think about.......Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander, and Cedar Park are all in Williamson County. If you went to, and enjoyed ACL Fest, then something you should probably do is Google Williamson County.

I agree with the previous posters, especially Spookmeister. Just want to add that I have family in Belton/Temple and there are some positives: Belton schools are good (don't know about Temple). Youth sports are a big dieal. There are some nice neighborhoods. The lakes are pretty and there are hilly/scenic areas. The local events, such as 4th of July Parade, feel like the movie Hope Floats. Judging the area from what you see from I35 is like judging Austin from the same perspective. Don't be discouraged from looking especially if you want a large amount of property (your own little ranch), or to be near a lake for boating/fishing, or a victorian fixer upper (Belton) in a diverse, university neighborhood.
