Howdy, everybody!!! How's it going? How about you and I gather once again around our friendly computer campfire and watch out for those waves? That's right. Surf's up! As you can see, spring break is approaching, and many folks (yes, mostly teenagers and college students, but certainly a few adults, too) will be heading for the beaches in our great state. So, I thought it would be a good time to start a new thread about what you like to do and where you like to go when it's time to go to the beach. We will not limit this thread to spring break, but any ol' time you like to go. The subject here is Texas beaches, since we have so many along the Texas Gulf Coast. Is there a go-to place in Texas for you?? We would sure like to know right here.

And, also, pictures are strongly encouraged if you have a few to share. The favorite Texas beach hot spots that you like ---- it's time to let everybody in on a little sand, sun, fun, and 'Hang Ten'. So let's begin a new wave of discussion right now.

TX has beaches?? You mean the ones with the brown sand?? OK, sorry, couldn't resist - just kidding! If I had to swim in the Gulf, I rather liked Padre and Corpus Christi. I wouldn't even put my toes in in Galveston.

I love Galveston but some give it a bad grade due to the excess crime.

I can not resist any of the Bolivar peninsula, especially Crystal Beach where we stay at an RV park.

That is only 2. There is so much more to explore that we have not even been to yet.

I just love the beach, period. No matter which one But I guess if I have to pick one, I'd say Corpus/Padre. But I've spent time on the beaches of Surfside, Quintana, Galveston, and Corpus. Not to mention bayside areas as well. I even took my first steps on a beach (Alabama, since my dad's job was there at the time).

South Padre Island would be my pick for most of my time. But, I would like to go to Boca Chica. When I was very young and South Padre wasn't developed (yes, I am certainly dating myself) my family would go to Boca Chica. It is east of Brownsville and is almost undeveloped. I think that there may be a few beach houses and that is all. Talk about getting away from it all.

As a kid we stayed in Rockport and then went to Port A for the day to have fun there. Good times still love the area.

I am dragged kicking and screaming to any beach.......LOL!!

I visit the Texas coast about once every 15 years or so....last trek was to Galveston in 1991, so I'm overdue.

Maybe in a couple of years...!

Even though I don't really walk on beach sand anymore (a few reasons), just a walk along Galveston's Seawall Blvd is the place for me. I'm making plans to go down this summer and even stay at that great Hilton hotel. One place I'd like to go, but which I never been to, is South Padre Island. It would be worth it even if just once.

I love Galveston. People think because the sand is brown that it's dirty. Totally not true. It's just not primarily gypsum or quartz, that's all. It's soft as a baby's bottom and great for making sand-castles, just ask anyone who has participated in the AIA contest during June.

There are days when I go over the causeway and cannot believe how blue the water is in the bay. Same with driving along the seawall. If they could just get the seaweed off the beach daily as other beaches do, it would help tremendously. Planting some palms would help, Mexican Fans, Sabal, or Date Palms, Canary Palms, anything that can deal with a light frost or two.
