Not Austin.

In the city proper, probably San Antonio.

Both Dallas and Houston probably have the widest range - really expensive in the prime downtown locations to very affordable in the less desirable suburbs (but still commutable).

Out of those major cities, San Antonio would have the lowest, with a median gross rent of $829/month (2013). Cost of living has increased quite a bit over the past few years in all of those cities listed, however, so the median gross rents have gone up since then.

You can always find a cheap place to live, but there will be trade-offs. The neighborhood might be high crime, and the housing might be old. It just depends on what you are willing to put up with.

What kind of work do you do?

The problem I've found with rent in DFW is that if you want a cheap place to live, the crime is often really high. In most of the Midwest, the cheaper rentals are still safe, just older.
