Are you of high school age? If so, I would recommend Lubbock High. It has the highest academic standards of all the schools in Lubbock (and arguably all of West Texas). It has one of the most successful magnet programs in the state, with a large International Baccalaureate program, and state winning academic teams. It's very diverse both racially and economically, and it doesn't have all the stupid cliques like most high schools have. Since it has the magnet program, you don't have to live in the neighborhood to go there. Hope that answers your question.

Are you a foreign exchange student? Lubbock High is a very international school; I can think of kids from 30 different countries of origin. I've noticed that the kids at Lubbock High tend to be very friendly and non-judgemental (which is different from most high schools). When you go to do your schedule for the year, I would recommend that you take at least the "Academic" level courses because any lower than that is probably too easy. (Courses are levelled, with "Regular" being the easiest, then "Academic", then "Pre-AP" and "AP". I would also recommend you do an extra-curricular activity like a sport, theater or band because that's where people tend to make the most friends and have the most fun. Good luck! Just out of curiosity, what country are you coming from, and what grade level are you going into?

Your English is fine. You can communicate your ideas; the grammar can come later. After just a couple of weeks in school, I think you will notice major improvements. The climate is probably very different. Last year, a friend of mine from northern Germany said it felt like she was on vacation all year long because it's so much warmer here. It's very hot right now, but it does cool off quite a bit during the winter. The weather is very unpredictable. In the winter, it can be 70 (21C) one day and a blizzard the next. I don't think there have been many Russian students here, but there was one from Ukraine and another from Mongolia last year. I don't think you will have a hard time fitting in.
