The historic old McAllen civic center was demolished the end of October to redevelop the area into what the city describes as "mixed-used developments with similar buzz words including the historic Pearl in San Antonio, the hill country galleria in Bee Cave, the Domain in Austin, and City Centre in Houston."

There were petitions to save and preserve the building for redevelopment but failed.

Simon properties and a Dallas base architect will develop the area. It sits on what they call "the most valuable land in the Rio grande valley" 10th & interstate 2

That building looks like a windowless prison from that angle - and like it was built in the '60s, which sort of stretches the definition of 'historic'.
