It's sad that some are gone, like Schreiner's department store in Kerrville (closed) and the Ingenhuett General Store in Comfort that burned last year.
We're aware of some in San Antonio, Austin, Galveston, Houston, and the major cities. Wanting to go especially to small towns. They need all the business they can get.
Also, does anyone know if there is a Texas general store that still has hoop cheese by the slice? The only one I know of is the T.C. Lindsey & Co. General Store in Marshall.
There's a soda jerk counter at one of the stores in McKinney... I don't know the name of the place off the top of my head, but it was a nice little shop with soda and ice cream.

My grandma remembers that explosion. I think she had just graduated high school. Her dad was a doctor near there and he heard the explosion from his office. She always tells that story. On a soda fountain, I think there is one in downtown Rockport, or there used to be.

This is great. These places need all the support they can get to increase awareness about them (and hopefully business). I plan to do write ups in my travel blog for all the places visited.

Ditto! We get out to Caddo Lake at least once each year for vacation and the General Store is always on the itinerary.

Jefferson General Store - Jefferson, TX - Visit us in Beautiful Jefferson, Texas

Someone earlier also mentioned T.C. Lindsey and Co. in Jonesville (about 15 miles from Marshall). It is always another place marked to stop in and look over. It is the oldest general store extant in Texas (opened in 1848). Lots of "neat stuff" within!

Nau's Rexall Drugstore is still alive and well in Austin. It's located at 12th Street/West Lynn in Old West Austin. Great cheeseburgers and fountain drinks.
