I say go as well. Drive if you like road trips, fly if you don't. But it is part of Texas either way, and you should see it so you get a feel for the entire state.

Go. Every part of Texas is interesting. It is a "whole different country" down there and worth seeing. It is too bad that is so hard to get into Mexico now. I really like Matamoras, across from Brownsville. And I like South Padre. McAllen, Harlingen--all of it is interesting. Don't expect it to be like where you live, and celebrate and enjoy the differences rather than expecting everyone and everything to be like you and your city.

I'm Not From Brownsville, But Stuck Here. I Hate It The Crooked Official, The Compadrismo, Not To Much There's Nothing To Do But Eat Her. The Island Is Nice I Admit, But I Can't Stand The Rude Mexican Citizens That Cut In Line Nad Drain Our Welfare System

It's a hellish, boring drive. Use that money to go somewhere fun in Mexico instead!

LOL, with the price of gas now, renting a movie seems like the best, most cost-effective idea! But, seriously, for the cost of gasoline on a trip like that, you could likely get a package deal for Cancun!

That's what the spring breakers are doing now--bypassing South Padre and going straight to Cancun because it's cheaper!

People who won't (or choose not to) see the true beauty of the Valley have no business going there. If you are open-minded and want to see a truly unique area, go visit.
