Whitewright or Pottsboro
My family are I are relocating to the area and were wondering about your preferences or thoughts about both Whitewright and Pottsboro. We have 3 boys ages 13, 12, and 5. We're somewhat conservative and like to be at least a little bit away from the center of town. We like country music, rodeos, shopping, baseball, etc. We would possibly be looking for work in the Sherman area.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Does anyone know anything about the area around Mill Creek Marina?
Thanks,
Frank

Well, Whitewright is just a small town with a very close community. The town doesnt have crimes around. The schools are great, we have about 9 store in Whitewright, we also have a great baseball teams from K through High School. Whitewright although does not have any rodeos in the town, but there are several at different town. We have good neighboorhoods, the city is very safe, and have trades day every first monday. Whitewright has 4 restuarants, and numerous businesses. If I were you I would choose Whitewright.

Whitewright and Pottsboro are very different places but both have their good points.
Whitewright is a country town, most of the people have been there for generations, most of the houses are older but there are a couple of small subdivisions in the edge of town. Most of the entertainment is church activities and ball games. It is not an expensive place to live. The school facilities are nice and have a good rating. It's a good 30 minute drive to medical facilitites, shopping, restaurants in Sherman and about 45 minutes to McKinney.
Pottsboro is mainly a bedroom community for Sherman/Denison....it's right on Lake Texoma. Until the past few years it was just a few houses and a couple of stores for the lake crowd. Within the past few years it has mushroomed and there are hundreds of very nice new homes on the edge of town. Most of the residents work in Sherman/Denison and even Dallas. Many of them are retirees who moved there to be near the lake. The school serves a large population in the rural area, not just town....it is highly rated and has very nice facilities. It is about 10 minutes drive to the Denison hospital and the Town Center shopping area between Sherman and Denison....they have just about anything you'd want - nice retail, most of the popular chain restaurants and a nice movie theatre.
There are a lot of small acreage rural places for sale around both towns, particularly around Sherman/Denison (which are really just one town now that they are growing together and meeting in the middle).
Have you looked at Bells? It has a wonderful school district....not much in town but lots of rural homes that the school serves all through the area between Bells and Denison, and they are all closer to Sherman/Denison than Whitewright is.

The City of Whitewright is in Grayson County..... www.grayson.tx.us/TaxMain/ is the tax website for land in that county.
However, WW is just barely in Grayson County....therefore, much of the surrounding property is in Fannin County, some of it is in Collin County and some even in Hunt County so be sure you check out where the county lines run when looking at properties. If you bought a large acreage you might be paying taxes in 2-3 different counties. Some of it might be within city limits, some of it not which makes a huge difference; some of it might be in one school district tax area and some another.
