There is a hotel in a wooded area at this address on the east side of I35 in the center of New Braunfels:
750 N Interstate 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130

Does anyone know what kind of place used to be located at this spot? I get a weird feeling about the place. Like it was some kind of religious institution or theological academy. The location might not be exactly where I'm remembering, but it's very close to that.

It's a spectacular place if you happen to be driving along the access road there. A very scenic location for any kind of building. Very tall trees near the river banks.

I appreciate if anyone has any info on this.

I searched the Comal County tax records, it had the same individual owner from 1993 to 2006, it has been a Courtyard hotel since 2008. The property description is pretty sparse it looks like it was a just a lot from 1993-2006, no evidence of development until 2006. The owners from 1993 to 2006 are SA restaurant people, (Frontier Meats, Jim's, Magic Time Machine) but I'm not sure if there was a restaurant on the lot or not, I think most likely not. Looks like they may have been land banking. The family is still in real estate.

No evidence that it was a religious retreat but to know for sure, I'd look at the archives of the New Braunfels H-Z (and I don't have a subscription).

Thanks for checking on that. I'm probably thinking of something along the banks but still close by. This was back in the 1980's and maybe even earlier.
