Well I never grew tired of it. Seems like your trying to talk me out of moving to the Texas Coast. Why is that I wonder? Oh and I do plan to rent first.
Thanks for the pictures they are very nice.

Muhnay,
I guess it did sound like I was trying to talk you out of it. I apologize. I had no intention to do so. I guess what I wanted to say is that most of the people I knew that lived there ended up moving. But now that I think about it, don't we all? It seems most of us yearn for our roots some time in life and a lot of people end up returning home, wherever that may be.
SPI is a tourist mecca, but only during Spring Break (Febraru - April). After that, you don't really wanna be out on the beach from June - September (too hot). So, the perfect time for living there would be October - January. My personal favorite is October/November -- empty beach, nice weather. No Spanish needed on SPI...unless you are in the hospitality industry. I believe the majority of the SPI population is caucasian. The Mexicans have their own beaches and they are CROWDED. The rich come across the border to be pampered like the rest of us. Really nice people at SPI, just stay away during Spring Break or barricade yourself in your home as my friends do in order to keep watch of their property. Not much to do on the Island other than enjoy the beach and being with friends and drinking a margarita/beer at the palm bar as the sunsets.
You may want to look into Port Isabel, but there's not much there in terms of living. Just run down homes and maybe a nice area or too. The only place you would like is in Harlingen, but that's far away...45mins? Though, if you'd ask me, I'd rather live here than any other beach town with the exception of somewhere on Washington or the Carolinas.

The old hometown is Ozona, right off of I-10.....350 miles east of El Paso....100 or so miles east of Fort Stockton....it's considered the Trans-Pecos area. The Pecos river forms the entire western boundary of the county, 3,000 square miles big.
If I return to Texas to live again, the Alpine-Marfa-Ft Davis area would be the most likely choice. It's probably why I like Alamogordo so much....it reminds me of West Texas with added mountains...

Very good post. Here's a little trivia about Ozona. It's the only county seat in the state of Texas that is not incorporated as an actual town or city. Isn't that something??

I forgot to mention that a pod of dolphins were moving parallel to the beach at the time.
It was lovely.

Thanks for the photo's Jester. I remembered the Dolphins when i was in the Navy as they always jumped along our ship when we entered our homeport in Jacksonville Florida.

Right on Cathy.....as i always remember Ozona and Junction in my many drives over the years from El Paso to Jacksonville FLA. I thought i remember seeing billboard signs about Caverns out there in that area if i remember correctly?
Did you go to San Antonio much growing up as you weren't too far i beleive ? My sister used to live there in the 80's and 90's and although i'm a 80's rocker she liked Country and Western so we used to go to the Midnite Rodeo there and had a blast and i never knew that women could be that beautiful....lol,....
Now i see why you like West Texas so much as you being raised in Ozona and living in Midland and now in Alamogordo as you could be Governor of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico if they ever form a new state. We could call it ''West Texico'' .....lol....
Take Care !!
Your friend harry !!

Isn't Mentone in Loving County the smallest county seat and county (population, not area) in the USA? I don't believe it is incorporated either. Doesn't the county have only about 51 people in a huge geographic area? I will have to look it up. This from memory, and I am getting senile.

Here we go: Loving county is the least populous county in the United States. This link:
Handbook of Texas Online - MENTONE, TX
states that the 2000 population of Mentone was only 15. If you go to the search function on the Handbook of Texas, you will find that Mentone is the only settlement in the county and that the county contains 671 square miles! (I am not senile--just not up to date--the source says that Mentone had 50 people in 1990).
