TravelTex Home
I am planning a trip from El Paso, to San Angelo, and down to the Coast, I plan to drive the coast from South Padre to Galveston, and explore it a little bit over 10 days. I am doing this for two reasons, one to get out of El Paso, and re-energize.. and Second to look for a place I can call home when I move. I am a Texan, have always been a Texan, lived all over the country though, but I have always felt and been Texan deep inside.. so I am gonna stay in Texas.
The Site has been a pretty good resource to plan my trip they have sent me free maps, and info on all the places I plan to visit and even advice on things to see and do on my trip. I thought it may help some of you as well so thats the reason I posted this topic. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

You know, sometimes we just need to get away for a little bit. That's a good thing, Muhnay. As huge as Texas is, there are going to be things we've never seen before, or never knew existed. Hope you have a fantastic trip, pal. I'll be going down to ol' San Antone in just a couple of weeks.

Hey 6foot3, did you see the Texas Lic. plate on the site too.. I ordered one. I needed too anyways because my plates are still from Mississippi. I applied for a cool personalized plate too.. I like the leather Texas on that plate and the motto, its like a whole other country.. You only get 5 letters, so I cant put MUHNAY, but maybe Money, Monay, or my last choice GDYUP on it.

Too bad you only get 5 letters as we get 6 here in New Mexico.
I need to find out where the town is in Texas that the ''Supposedly'' Billy the Kid lived as he claimed in the 1940's that Pat Garrett didn't shoot him but let him live. It's some where by Abilene or Dallas i believe.
It's a big debate here in NM....

On a Normal plate we get 7 letters in Texas.. on that plate as it is a special limited printing.. you only get 5.
I saw on the news about that they want to dig up graves in a couple New Mexico towns and Texas towns and do DNA testing to see who have the real Billy the Kid. Or if he was alive and well.. I recall a picture of someone claiming to be Billy the kid.. and he sure did look a lot like him.

Yeah the Govenor wanted to dig up the Gravesite at Ft.Sumner but the town and businesses there revolted and threatened a lawsuit because if it wasn't him there it would devastate the town there as tourism is king there.
We do know that his mother Catherine McCarthy is buried at Silver City NM and absolutely know it's her and her grave so they wanted to dig her up and get the DNA but i believe these things will never happen as too many different parties are involved one way or the other.
Anyway it was kinda neat to see his grave in Ft.Sumner but if i find out the town in Texas where the ''other'' Billy the Kid is buried i'd go and visit it as well.

I've seen his hangout in Mesilla, NM, but I wouldn't mind taking a look at the gravesite, assuming the grave in question hasn't been dug up already.

New Mexico is right up there for plain beauty. There's a reason Hollywood does all their filming there, especially for films that take place in Texas.
Muhnay,
You don't like West Texas? I don't care for El Paso, but the areas near San Angelo, Big Spring, etc are pretty with small towns and stereotypical Texas lifestyle. I even spotted Bison on some of the ranches out there. A road trip will certainly re-energize you. It's great...you feel like you can conquer anything when you get back home.
Anyways, why do you want to move to the coast? You sure you can take the humidity?

No it hasn't been dug up as it's protected inside a steel cage. They did that as over the years people kept steeling the Headstone. Also it's owned by the '' Old Ft.Sumner '' museum as the only way to see it is to pay a couple of dollars and tour the museum (kinda cool) and then you enter the backgrounds outside behind it (all fenced off) and walk over and check it out.
Billy the Kid's Graves, Ft. Sumner, New Mexico
Not to promote NM as these are the Texas forums ....as i still wish i knew where the town in Texas is where the ''other'' Billy the Kid is buried.
