In a non urban place that's not too prone to crazy weather yet has some amenities(stores, barber shops, some mass transit, etc.)

within 1 hr of a SWA airport (for quick escapes)= Rural Hill Country west of SAT or AUS. (Stay on HIGH ground, but very few tornadoes and such). Public transit... pretty tough, Kerrville, Boerne, Fredericksburg are largest with access to Alamo Transit (occasional not a Public route). Both Kerrville and Fredericksburg have colleges (A nice thing to have in a small city). Kerrville has the big box stores of the west Hill Country. Very cheap Greyhound to SA 3x daily.

Maybe the Northwest side of San Antone or New Braunfels or Westlake Hills.

I think most cities with over 100,000 people have Uber/Lyft.

Montrose without a doubt. As long as I lived in one of the gorgeous old homes I could still close my door and pretend its the same old raunchy Montrose of the 90's and early 2000's. Still love the neighborhood, but it was just more appealing to me when it was still a "gayborhood". Nostalgia I guess, just remembering my younger days
