Hello Texans,

My wife and I will be visiting Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex during the weekend of July 14th-16th. We will be staying in Bedford. We are very interested in swimming beaches at lakes (natural or man-made). We are open if it is within one hour away from the metroplex. We prefer for the beach to be clean and sandy without rocks if possible.

We would like to get more recommendations other than what we have below:

Little Elm Park Beach

Loyd Park Beach at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie

Possum Kingdom Lake (more than 2 hours west)

Granbury City Beach at Lake Granbury (one hour from Ft. Worth)

My opinion: Granbury City Beach is the best in that it looks vaguely like a beach, with sand and cabanas and what not. For the most part, the swimmable areas near Dallas lakes are very limited in number and tend to be more rocky and rough and muddy than resembling anything like a beach.

Check the pics of Lloyd Park for example. That's a good example of a TX beach. Grass straight into muddy lake water.

You're going to be very disappointed going out looking for a "beach" in or around DFW. And just FYI, not a single lake in Texas is "natural". They are all man-made.

I figure that out about Texas lakes while looking at pictures of various ones. That is why I am asking for recommendations.

Any comments about Little Elm Park Beach?

What about Lake Texoma, Lake Whitney, Lake Worth, and Richland Chambers Lake outside the Metroplex?

It looks small but very sandy compared to Loyd State Park Beach. I looked at Lloyd State Park Beach in Florida by accident. Now I see the difference. LOL

Honestly, Texas lakes really aren't very nice for swimming. The water is not clear, and some lakes have lots of stumps underwater. Snakes are also a common sight in lakes. That's why most of us would rather swim in a pool.

Yikes! I hate snakes. I never see snakes in Arkansas lakes.

Do you have any recommendations for popular public pools near Bedford? One of my friends recommended Natatorium in Allen and Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine. They are pretty far away.

I am really open to anywhere so we can explore the Metroplex. I definitely will need to buy a pass for all toll roads.

Bedford and Grapevine are only a few miles apart via TX 121. It's maybe a 10 minute drive. Bedford's water park looks very nice: Bedford Splash

NRH2O is a nice water park in North Richland Hills that's very popular in the summer. https://www.nrh2o.com

Great Wolf Lodge requires you to be a hotel guest to swim there, and the rooms are expensive. It's also designed for kids, not adults.

Hurricane Harbor in Arlington has a wave pool, slides, and a lazy river. https://www.sixflags.com/hurricaneharbortexas

Possum Kingdom is the clearest lake I've seen in DFW.

Echoing what others have said - only swim in the reservoirs in DFW if you like murky water, hidden underwater obstacles, drunken boaters, and cleaning a half inch of pond scum off your body when you're done. DFW's reservoirs are tremendously overrated.

Caddo Lake is natural for the most part.
